How can our research support bee conservation efforts?
A lucky consequence of our work through BeeDanceGap has been the opportunity to use our ERC-funded apiary to inform conservation efforts. As a result of the funding provided for BeeDanceGap, we have state-of-the-art observation apiaries, and our PhD students capitalise upon these facilities. In particular, RHUL PhD student Ash Samuelson has been decoding the dances of the honeybees in our observation hives to work out how urbanization affects bee foraging patterns. PhD student Harry Siviter has also been using our bee rearing facilities to study the effects of novel pesticides on bees.
